View looking southwest into the area where the Prytaneum was located.  The corner outlined by the stones in the foreground marks the northeast corner of the building, of which only wall foundations and the stone pavement is preserved.  Just left of center note the flat paving stones of the interior of the Prytaneum.

The stone wall on the right side of the image, about 7 courses high, is the eastern wall of the Bouleuterion.

 

The Prytaneum was the place where the daily administrative functions of the city were carried out.  Here city official met and ate together.  Here visitors to the city were entertained and here the sacred fire of the city, dedicated to the goddess Hestia, was maintained.
