This mosaic shows some of the medallions that were adorned with birds, fish, and musical instruments. This is part of a large mosaic that is in one of the rooms of a building that bordered the large market place in the Lower City of Diocaesarea on the west.
This area, and building, may have served as Diocaesarea's/Zippori's marketplace from the first to the fourth centuries, BC.
The University of South Florida excavated this area.
