Pompeii House of the Tragic Poet

Pompeii House of the Tragic Poet

The House of the Tragic Poet is located in northwest Pompeii, in Regio VI Insula 8.  It is a well–preserved, small, elite house that was elaborately decorated.  It was evidently refurbished after the earthquake of A.D. 62.

The house, along with all of Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in August A.D. 79. It was discovered in 1824.  Many, but not all, of the frescos and mosaics have been moved to Naples National Archaeological Museum.

It consists of an Entryway, Atrium, Tablinum, Peristyle Garden, Triclinium and other rooms.
