View looking east down the nave at the apse and the altar area of the Church of St. Nicholas.  The altar is the rectangular block of stone in the center and it is surrounded by four columns that in turn originally supported a canopy.

Behind the altar the semicircular seating of the synthronon is visible.  This is the area where the clergy sat.  On the extreme left and extreme right, portions of doors are visible.  These lead to a semicircular vaulted hallway that is under the synthronon.
