View looking west at the reconstructed façade of the Library of Celsus. Gaius Julius Aquila built this library (A.D. 110-135) to honor his father who had been the governor of the Roman Province of Asia (A.D. 105-107). It also served as a tomb for his father.

At its peak, it is said to have housed 12,000 manuscripts!
