View of a reconstructed Israelite (four room) House that was found in the Negev Highlands.

The woman in the black slacks is standing in the long back room that runs from left  central to lower right.  From right to left, the woman in the blue slack is standing in one of the three parallel long rooms, a child is peeking out from the central courtyard or second long room, and a man in a white shirt (on the left) is in the third parallel long room.

This house is a faithful reconstruction of one found nearby.  Note also the height of the interior columns and rafters.  The woman in black slacks is 5.2 feet [1. 5 m.] tall, which means that the height of the interior room was less than 5 ft. [1.3 m.] high.  Note the interior “window” that the child is peeking through.   The right exterior wall shows that these walls were built with an outer and an inner facing of dressed field stones, but filled with a rubble core of small stones and mud.

The Israeli town of Mitzpeh Ramon is visible in the background.
