A rather unusual scene of a Palestinian farmer plowing his field with a camel.

Plowing for the grain crops took place in September/October and then the crops were sown and grew during the winter months and were harvested in the late spring/early summer.

The camel is a single humped dromedary.  Note the harness arrangement in front of its hump and the plow at the foot of the farmer.  Looking carefully at this picture you will notice that actually three teams are plowing this field!

Note how brown and barren the ground and the hills are after the rainless summer!
