Crypt of Barnabas

A picture of the cenotaph in the Crypt in which tradition suggests that Barnabas was buried.  This crypt was discovered in the fifth century AD.

Barnabas was the companion of Paul on his first missionary journey.  This chapel was built in the 1950s over a catacomb.  Acts 4:36 says that Barnabas was a native of Cyprus. Church tradition suggests that he was stoned to death in AD 61 and was buried by his cousin Mark on the island of Cyprus.
