Shrine of Barnabas

Photograph of the "presumed" Tomb of Barnabas, the companion of Paul on his first missionary journey.  This chapel was built in the 1950's over a catacomb.  Acts 4:36 says that Barnabas was a native of Cyprus.

Acts 4:36  Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement),

Church tradition suggests that he was stoned to death in AD 61 and was buried by his cousin Mark on the island of Cyprus.

Acts 11: 24 describes Barnabas as:

He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.
