View of the rooms of the Varius Bath complex that is located to the west of the steep ancient road that leads up the hill.

In the lower-left, the semi–circular arch of the Temple of Hadrian, which was built into the façade of the bath is barely visible.

This photo was taken from the area where in ancient times, houses of the elite citizens of Ephesus would have been.  Curetes Street is hidden from view as it runs from right to left in the foreground of the picture—just in front of the Temple of Hadrian.

The Varius Bath was located at the west end of the Curetes Street, on the north side of the street.  It was established in the first half of the second century A.D.  Later they were refurbished by a Christian woman named Scholasticia.  Sometimes they are called the Bath of Scholasticia.
