Upper Agora

The large green area in the whole upper left of the image is the Upper (political) Agora/Forum.  In the upper right, the arches that supported the Temple of Domitian are visible.  The Agora Temple was located near the tree in the upper right quadrant of the picture.

View looking down and southwest at the Basilica Stoa.  This was a two–storey, triple–aisled structure that was built in A.D. 11.  It is sometimes called the "Royal Colonnade."

This Ionic building was one of the most significant structures in Ephesus.  It was entered, from the Agora/Forum, by a flight of 4 stairs.  The front façade had 67 columns.  There were two side aisles and a middle aisle/nave that was 22 ft. wide.  The east end housed large seated statues of Emperor Augusts and his wife Livia.

This building was about 40 years old by the time Paul arrived in Ephesus!
