A Greek inscription from the temple of Athena Polias at Priene inscribed with the name of Alexander the Great (ca. 334–330 B.C.).  The inscription was found in the 19th–century excavation of the building.

"The inscription may be translated:

'King Alexander dedicated the temple to Athena Polias'."

In 334 BC, when Alexander reached Priene, the new temple of Athena Polias, goddess of the city was still under construction.  Alexander left funds for the completion of the building . . . In return, Alexander's name was inscribed on the anta of the temple. (From the British Museum)
