Citadel

View from within the agora looking southeast towards the ancient citadel.  The modern name for the citadel is "Kadifekale "the velvet castle," while the ancient name was Mt. Pagus.  Major development of the citadel began during the days of Alexander the Great (d. 323 B.C.).

Note the architectural fragments that have been assembled in the agora.
