View looking down and south at the stage and orchestra area of the Council House (Bouleuterion) at Aphrodisias.  This version of the Council House was constructed around AD 200.  It could seat about 1,700 people and was used for civic as well as cultural events such as theatrical, musical, and poetic performances.

During its excavation 8 larger-than-life-size marble statues were found in the ruins of the stage building.  They included images of gods as well as leading citizens of Aphrodisias.
