Pompeii: House of Julia Felix

Pompeii: House of Julia Felix

The house of Julia Felix (Praedia di Giulia Felice) is a very large complex that was rebuilt after the earthquake of A.D. 62.  It is located just to the northwest of the Amphitheater.  Two blocks (insulae) of Pompeii were combined into one to form it.  The complex consists of four parts: an atrium house, a large formal garden, a bath complex, and a large working garden.

For ease of reference, the site of Pompeii is divided into nine regions (= Regio in Italian).  Region 2 (= Regio II) is located in the southeast corner of Pompeii.  In it is the world's oldest Amphitheater (well-preserved), the workout area (Palestra), some garden areas, and several excavated houses including the House of Venus in the shell, the complex of Julia Felix (Giulia Felice), etc.
