Atrium

A view of the Atrium of the House of Venus in the Shell looking south.  On the right are the entrance ways into rooms that branch off the atrium.  Left, n the center of the atrium is the "impluvium" that collects rainwater from an opening in the ceiling—the compluvium.

The opening in the wall in the back of the image leads to the Peristyle Garden.
