View looking north at the "Audience Hall" of the Palace of Domitian.  This is where the Emperor would receive his subjects.  It is 125 ft. long by 100 ft. wide.  Its walls are about 10 ft. thick!  It had 8 "niches," four of which are visible on the left (west) side of the image.  Each "niche" contained a colossal statue.  Two statues were discovered in 1724, a Hercules and a Bacchus carved in green basalt.  They are on display in a museum in Parma, Italy.
