View looking south at the northern scarp of the Palatine Hill that overlooks the Roman Forum below.  In the Roman Forum on the right are the three columns of the Temple of Castor and Pollux and on the left, the white structure with columns is the Temple of Vesta.

Behind all of these is the Labyrinth of arches and passageways.  This is the area where portions of elite houses and palaces were located—in a prominent position overlooking the Forum below!  They also formed terraces that help support the form of the Palatine Hill.
