Temple of Julius Caesar

View looking south at the meager remnants of the Temple of Julius Caesar.  The remnants of the Temple are under the roofed area.  Note the preserved apse under the roof as well as the light covered wall.  The walls on both sides of the apse probably belong to a different structure.

This temple was built to honor Julius Caesar, who was murdered on March 15, B.C. 44—the "Ides of March."  It was here that he was cremated and where his ashes were interred and where Mark Antony read out his will.

After the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C. his adopted son Octavian fixed the rams (rostra) of defeated ships to the structure.
