At the foot of a sandstone rock scarp, Rothenberg discovered the foundations of a temple that had been use by the Egyptians (worshiping Hathor) and afterward by the Midianites. During its Midianite phase (ca. 1150–1050) it was evidently covered by cloth (like the biblical Tabernacle).
