East Church

View looking east at the east portion of the East Church—also called the "Church of the Martyrs."  The use of crosses as floor decorations indicate that it was built prior to AD 427—when crosses on the floors where prohibited.

The mosaic paved nave fills the foreground of the image.  The steps leading up to the chancel are clearly visible, as is the apse and the semi-circular benches (synthronos).
