View looking east along the axis of the west, or "Nilus Church"—so-called because of a central inscription mentioning Nilus, who founded this building.  The church probably dates to the late fourth century A.D.

In the central nave note the beautiful mosaics.  In the distance is the apse of the church.  In the apse note the bench (synthronos) for the clergy.  Just a pillar of the chancel screen remains on site.  To the right and left of the apse are two rooms that may have functioned as service rooms (pastrophoria) or for relics (especially the one on the right [south]).  To the left and right of the nave are the two aisles.
