Winter Grass

Winter Grass

View looking south through at the chalk hills of the Wilderness of Judah.  This image was taken in January after some rain had fallen.  Note the green grass covering on the barren chalky hills.

During the winter months shepherds bring their sheep and goats into this region, east of Jerusalem, and east of the watershed, while the grain crops are growing in the fields to the west of the watershed.

These hills will turn barren brown during May, and remain that way until the rains falls again in November/December.

Compare the words of the prophet Isaiah — after describing the wilderness — “The grass withers, the flower faces, when the breath of the Lord blows upon it . . . “ (Isaiah 40:6-8).  To view the hills in the wilderness during the summer Click Here.
