View of the "Pool of Gibeon."  It seems that this was the first part of the water system carved into the bed–rock.  Note the rock–carved stair case that leads down into the "pool."

This portion of the system is 39 ft. [11.8 m.] in diameter and 35 ft. [10.8 m.] deep. Below this is another spiral staircase (79 steps) that leads down to the spring water.

The date of this water system is difficult to determine.  It is Iron Age, but it is not too probable that it is the system referred to in 2 Samuel 2:13.
