Mosque/Weli

Mosque/Weli

View looking southeast at the northwestern corner of Jame Yetim.  This was probably a mosque and at one time may have been a "weli"–a monument memorializing a Muslim holy man.

The sand and plastic cover the mosaics (see the following images) that have been discovered during the last twenty years.  These mosaics and associated walls probably belong to a 5th-6th century Byzantine Church.

On the left (east) side of the image the houses of the Jewish community of Shiloh are visible.
