Aijalon Valley

Aijalon Valley

View looking east from Gezer at the Aijalon Valley.  In the distance are the "mountains" of the Hill Country of Benjamin.  A (relatively) new railroad trestle crosses the valley from left to right.

The Aijalon Valley is the most important entranceway into the Central Hill Country of Israel—and the most important approach to Jerusalem.  The Aijalon is mentioned in connection with the defeat of the Amorite coalition by Joshua (Joshua 10) and with the activities of the Philistines, the Egyptians, the Seleucids, the Romans and many others as they attacked, or retreated, from the Hill Country.

See the Zondervan NIV Atlas pp. 47 for a detailed description of the imporance of the Aijalon Valley.
