South of the Temple Mount

A view of the model of Second Temple Jerusalem looking west.  The Temple Mount is in the lower right corner of the image—the red-roofed structure is the "Royal Portico."  Stretching to the left is the Old Ancient Core of the City of Jerusalem—aka "City of David."

Archaeologically not to many structures have been found here, but from literary sources, it is known that the Palace of the Queen of Adiabene was located here as was a synagogue(!) built by Theodotos.

On the lower part of the image, on this side of the city wall, is where the Kidron Valley flows from left to right.  In the left portion of the image, beyond the city wall but not too visible is where the Hinnom Valley was located.

In the lower right quadrant, south of the Temple Mount, there is a long blank space.  This is where the Stadium was placed when the model was on the grounds of the Holy Land Hotel.  When the model was moved to the campus of the Israel Museum the Stadium was not included—because that area has been intensively excavated and not remains of a stadium have been found there.
