Herodian Towers & Second Wall

View looking down on to the area just north of the Herodian Palace complex.

In the upper (east) portion of the image the Temple Complex is visible and in the far left two of the four towers of the Antonia Fortress.  In the upper right (southeast) the stadium is visible.

On the lower right (south) side of the image are three towers that were located just north of the Herodian Palace complex.

On the right side of the image note the “First Wall” that runs from the three towers east to the Temple Mount.

Also on the right side of the image note the two walls that are perpendicular to the “First Wall.”  The wall that joins the “First Wall” by a tower and that proceds toward the viewer out of the lower portion of the image is the “Third Wall”—that was not begun until after the death of Jesus.

The wall that joins the first wall just above (east) of it, and that proceeds off the left (north) side of the image is a representation of the “Second Wall”—the exact line of which is not known archaeologically.  Josephus says it ran from the “Genath Gate” to the “Antonia Fortress.”
