II Interior

View looking east at the interior to the Roman Catholic “Chapel of the Flagellation.”

The chapel was renovated in 1927 by A. Barluzzi.  The windows represent the Flagellation of Jesus and Pilate washing his hands, and the release of Barabas.

On the dome is a crown of thorns.

This is at the second station of the cross that commemorates Jesus being scourged by the Roman soldiers and especially where he “took up his cross.”  It is just across the street from the Umariyya Boys School (the Antonia Fortress; Station 1).
