Pool 2

Pool 2

View from the top of the Herodium looking down (northwest) on to the large (230' by 148') pool. The pool was originally surrounded by lush gardens which in turn were surrounded by covered colonnades (note the reconstructed columns on the north, west, and south sides of the garden.

At the lower portion of the picture, note the excavations. Here a monumental building made out of ashlar stones (squared building stone) with pilasters (half columns attached to walls) has been uncovered. Some have thought that possibly the tomb of Herod might be located here - but to-date, it has not been found.
