Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation

This church is built above the spring that evidently served the people of Nazareth during its early history—at least as early as the 4th century A.D., if not earlier.  The present church was built in 1750 using older Crusader stones and foundations.

According to Greek Orthodox tradition, the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary as she was drawing water from the well and then appeared to her again when she returned home, announcing that she was to bear the Son of God.
