Early Shrine Interior 2

Early Shrine Interior 2

View looking down, east southeast, at the west end of the "Early Shrine" at Omrit.  This Early Shrine was encased by two later temples—like putting boxes around it.

The Early Shrine is the structure in the center of the image with sand bags protecting its left (north) face. Note how the Early Shrine is a freestanding structure—not attached to the walls above it.  The walls in the upper portion of the image are the walls of the First Temple that encased and tower over the Early Shrine.

From the bottom up, the Early Shrine stands on a base of hewn stones crowned by a molding.  Above that are more hewn stones and the remnants of a plastered floor are visible.
