Early Shrine Stairs 2

Early Shrine Stairs 2

View looking down, southeast, at the entrance to the "Early Shrine" at Omrit.

In the center of the image the upper platform is of well-carved stones is visible.  The lower portions of it have carved decorative moldings and much of the plaster (frescos?) that covered the stones is still visible.

The lower platform is visible on the left (east) side of the image is flanked by two plastered pedestals that are now protected with wooden metal covers.  Note also, on the far left of the image, portions of the stone staircase that led up to the lower platform.

On the right (east) side of the image note the large stones of the eastern foundation wall of the later temple that actually cut through (look carefully) the earlier shrine.  The remnants of the earlier shrine were excavated, and are visible, inside (west) of this wall.
