Nain

Nain

Luke 7:11–15 describes Jesus approaching the gate of the town of Nain and meeting a funeral procession of the only son of a widowed mother.  The text describes how Jesus brought him back to life and "gave him back" to her.

New Testament Nain is usually identified with the Arab village of Nein (Na'im) that is located on the north slope of Mount Moreh—and facing toward Mount Tabor.  The modern village is built over the ancient Hellenistic/Roman town and there are no clear remains visible on the surface although some shaft tombs (possibly from the Roman period) are located south of the village, up the slope of Moreh.
