View looking south southeast at the interior of the synagogue.  On the left (east) side of the image is the eastern entrance to the synagogue.  On the right (south) side of the image a semi–circular niche (the ark) is visible.  This faced towards Jerusalem and some times biblical scrolls were stored there.

In the center of the image a "heart–shaped column" is visible.
