Area A Overview 3

A photo of  "Area A" looking west.  This is where the major excavation of el-Araj has taken place—to-date.  It is evident that the remains at el-Araj are much more extensive than many thought.  These include a Roman Bathhouse and most recently the remains of a Byzantine Church that the excavators believe was part of a monastic complex—possibly "The Church of the Apostles" that was visited by Willibald in A.D. 725.

For brief reports on each of the four seasons of excavations see the official Press Releases.
